G Social Media References

If you know anything about increasing your media, you will take the great things people say about you and your business and create a blog post or web page such as this. Some of my anti-fan club are asking right now "How does he get all of these great references?" For one, I work my ass off doing successful social media for my clients. Next, I ask people for recommendations on LinkedIn. Lastly, I use them here to market who I am and what I do. Now go ahead, stop hating, and get some of your own. Be fruitful and multiply. Haha, I feel great! Listen to what folks are saying about me. It's pretty good...

“I can't think of anyone I enjoy writing a recommendation for more than Gary Charles. I first worked with G Social Media in 2010. Gary is Mr. Social Media.to me and you He lives, breathes, and eats it. He has deep technical understanding of the different channels available to promote a product or service, and how each will impact a campaign.

But plenty of people can execute a good social media campiagn. What Gary brings to the situation is a business person's drive and determination. Gary is a business professional and understands that it takes constant improvement to be the best. He was always on top of every detail and prompt to answer questions and deliver solutions. He is a business man's social media Guru, and I would work with him again in a minute. In fact, I am at this very moment working on a new campaign. Social Media - the proof is in the pudding

Being a social media consultant has it's good and bad times. When a company calls me in and asks me to evaluate their current online media, I have to keep several things in mind. First, are they looking to get rich overnight with sm? If I sense this at all, I am quick to bring people back to reality and let them now that this is a growth process. Next, are they looking to save their business which is 90 days away from shutting down? Social media may help, but seeing last minute results right before your doors close will only leave you with a "could've, should've, would've" attitude and that is not healthy for anyone. Yes, you should act now, not later.

Then I have to find out who was "supposedly" doing their social media, or better yet, who was experimenting on them. Sometimes it is a family member that works for the business and other times it is an employee who thinks they are going to show off their technology skills by creating a Twitter account, Facebook business page, or blog. Oh, it could also be a friend trying to help, or a bad referral based off of a "friendship" deal. The owner of a business is usually temporarily satisfied by these efforts with their contentment built off of misinformation. I know when this happens, it is just a matter of time before business is lost, eyes are opened, people get fired, friendships are gone; and they finally come to me asking for help. I come in, educate, sometimes tear down the rickety social media they have built, and I begin building again; but this time with good constructive materials... the skills and knowledge I bring to the table. We are now ready to win!

The end result? A comprehensive, successful social media package that works day and night for businesses anywhere. A consistent, targeted, effective online campaign that is quickly proven within 90 days of starting. Like I said "The proof is in the Pudding."

Social Media Case Study # 4 - Skyland Distributing Company

Situation:
Skyland Distributing Company is one of the largest beverage distributors in North Carolina serving 24 western counties. Since the company is a wholesale distributor and only sells to other businesses; cultivating the general public as followers through social media was never a strategy that seemed worthwhile. Indeed, most companies with that type of business model don’t embrace the communication platform as necessary; but not Skyland Distributing. When G Social Media came on the scene they had no social media strategy in place.

Problem/Target
Skyland Distributing Company, being a wholesale distributor, had no need to build brand identity with the end consumer but wanted to use its regional muscle to promote the brands it sells to its vendors and at the same time promote their vendors. They wanted to create a win/win situation for everyone and at the same time drive sales of its products indirectly through their vendors. They needed to target beverage consumers in Western North Carolina.

Solution:
Skyland had no social media strategy when they brought in G Social Media but they did have an idea. The idea was to create different online personalities among their staff and sales team to then promote their bands and customers’ businesses. They also wanted let people know they weren’t some old stogy company stuck in the 20th century. Instead, Skyland wanted be seen as a company open to community and new ideas; a company that supports its customers and wants to work with and connect with people. G Social Media set up everything including their corporate Facebook page and then the Twitter accounts for their staff and sales team.

Results to Date:
Skyland’s Facebook fan page is now at 1,000. Skyland’s whole sales team and staff can make instant updates concerning events and promotions in support of their brands and vendors. They’re created immeasurable good will in the community and proved that an old distributor can learn new tricks. Skyland Distributing Company is on the cutting edge and utilizing new communications platforms in support of their core business in ways not imagined before.

Why marketers should love G Social Media

I do social media. I have been in this field for years. I practice this lifestyle in person and online. I do it for myself and I work it for my clients. I love to make connections. In my industry, and among a lot of my local peeps, there is a consistent sense of unwarranted competition. There need not be. I compliment business in general. I do not "steal" clients and I am supportive of the work of others. Here is why Marketers should love me:

1. I do balanced and correct social media, for my clients, your clients, and/or by being a ghost marketer.. where I do the work for your clients, for you, behind the scenes, never disclosing myself if necessary.

2. I do not compete - Loyalty is big part of what I do. Some marketers already have their clients in place and it would be unethical to solicit them directly. Sometimes marketing experts want me to be in direct contact with the clients, sometime they don't. Either way my commitment to my clients, your clients, and project as a whole is the same.

3. I love to train and empower - Sometimes marketers and PR experts do not want to give away "marketing secrets" to their clients, and put the power in their hands; but if you want me to set up your social media and then you take it from there, it is fine with me. I can show you have to maintain or you can source it out to me. The choice is yours.

4. I am a freelance agent, not looking for a job - Job security is important, especially in these tough economic times. When I come on the scene and their is already a marketer or marketing team in place; their job is never in jeopardy. Everyone likes to tell their client they "can do everything" so it is hard for marketers to reach out and source out for help when needed sometimes. I come in, reinforce, rebuild, and train you how to be more effective doing your job... not taking your job.

5. I will make you look good - Social networking and media is no longer a pastime game. If you are going to use it; use it right. Make it fun and profitable for you, your business and your clients. I can help greatly in this area. I love teamwork and would welcome being a part of your team. I can be your social media man!

6. Your company will do better - Everyone wants results. I can make it happen for the company in need. Social media is the way to initiate and build connections; leading to business. If used properly, all of us will do great.

7. We will all win -  And we will all live happily ever after. Doesn't everybody love a happy ending? I know I do.

Asheville Architect wins with G Social Media

When Architect Daryl Rantis entered the recent Free Green competition against over 400 other Architects from around the World, he knew that he needed a little more than the votes of some family and friends. G Social Media was contacted and an online voting strategy was quickly implemented and attached to an already wonderful home design in the Asheville NC area.

G Social Media, while already constructing a social media package for Rantis Architects; shifted gears and focused on the prize in promoting this urgent competition on Facebook, Twitter, and Blogger. The votes began to come in and the comments were great. Although other designs were close, Daryl ended up on top. The results: HE WON! What did he win? A big bag of money, his design featured on their website, and lots of other incentives.

Yes, Social Media does work. You cannot afford not to use it!

Social Media for Businesses (mentions G Social Media of Asheville NC)

Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and YouTube — names that didn't exist a handful of years ago — are now indispensable business-survival tools.

Remember when small businesses were scrambling to set up Web sites — to provide an easily accessible online presence for their clients and customers? Today, these same businesses are learning they must expand beyond static Web pages and into the continuously updated stream of information otherwise known as social media.

"Today's businesses need to have a comprehensive online presence," says Gary Charles of G Social Media, based in Asheville. "That means a video outlet, such as YouTube, an updater, such as Twitter, a photo uploader, such as Flickr, social media accounts, such as Facebook or MySpace, and a blog, such as Blogger, TypePad or WordPress."

Class #4 - Free Asheville Social Media School on Videos - May 27th

This event was originally planned for April 23rd, but the Presidential family was in town so it was postponed. The new date for this event is May 27, 2010 at Elaine's Piano at the Grove Park Inn. Video taking, making, editing, uploading and marketing.

In Asheville North Carolina in a few weeks, Social Media School takes a nice topic on.. when we talk about using video production and marketing to truly advance your business or person in this new media society. The class is going to be held at the Grove Park Inn 290 Macon Ave Asheville NC 28804 on May 27, 2010 from 5 pm - 7:30 pm with some music and an after party beginning around 8pm. RSVP on Facebook or email me.

Your words are worth something, but add a picture to those words and I heard it is worth 10,000. Add a video to the mix and WOW, you can really get your message across to a whole new audience. Videos are and important part of your social media package and strategy. Who doesn't like movies? And who does not like to watch a short movie about the topic they are interested in? Businesses who have not taken advantage of the YouTube and Vimeo scene are already behind in their efforts. Learn what to do to pick up your pace and get effectively involved.

G Social Media will be teaching along with Asheville Video Productions, Bourne Media, Rev Pictures, and PSAV. This is an important class that you do not want to miss. I know I will be there! Lol.

Notes from Asheville Social Media School - Class #1 - Feb 25, 2010

Here are the recap notes for the Asheville Social Media School – Class #1 by G Social Media that was held at the Downtown Market. Please review these before the next class we will be moving onto setting up a Twitter and Facebook account and also a Facebook Fan Page. We are going to learn the do's and dont's and some great tips to help you grow your network! We are also going to hear from some great guest networkers.

1. Class Rules –

a. Meet a minimum of 5 new people or businesses each time you come. Document these people in one way or another. Maybe make a list of “New people I have met in 2010” etc. This will show you how to network. Also, reach out and meet someone totally opposite of your niche, someone you can never imagine working with, and someone who you may have thought “I will never need that service or person.”

b. Ask Questions! Some cards are available and you can ask any questions you may have about social media and networking. You can also ask them via my email. We will either answer them in class, online or both.

c. Try to take notes. Even if you never look at them again, notes provide more retention.

d. Try to be sociable – This is the beginning of social media.

2. Little Intro about me –
I set up and train people and businesses on social media and networking. I run a company called AskAsheville.com which is actively involved in the social media scene, and I network with everyone – Open and Closed Networkers – Community – We do this together, nobody owns it anymore.

3. Social Media has been around forever - But the methods have changed some. (Mail, Telephone, Art, Television, Cell Phones, Internet, Email, Instant Message, Websites, Texting, Social Networking, Social Media)

4. What is Social Media –

a. Being sociable, open, and accessible. A sense of humor or event attempt is great too.

b. How many of you watch Deal or No Deal? You cannot being the banker, live up in your tinted glass room, and be sociable.

c. The old way of making connections was that you connected with those who were applicable to what you were trying to accomplish.

d. Today, we connect with everyone knowing that everyone is a potential client, knows a potential client, or has a voice somewhere.

e. Before we just connected with those that “applied” but now we connect with everyone and take the “better” relationships deeper. Also know that every one person has at least 5-10 close connects.

5. Who created Social Media?

a. I want you to write “G Social Media” here…. And then after that write “did not invent social media.”

b. Al Gore didn’t, and not talking politics, but Obama’s campaign made the whole world more aware than ever about it. People started paying attention. From hobby to essential.

6. Why is Social Media Important –

a. The term “friend” has changed. You are my friend if we only met on Facebook. You are my friend if you are connected to me on Twitter. I think of my friends first when making choices, gathering information and making buying decisions.

b. This is the current way to maximize your communication and mass communicate. Versus Instant Messenger, Email, One on One,

c. It levels the playing field with the “Big Boys” – Everyone is somewhat equal, has a voice, and is accountable to each other. Great for handicapped people… or businesses that may have a handicap as far as certain limitations.

d. People listen more to people in their networks, not search engines or blatant advertising.

e. Crowd sourcing is awesome. Ask the multitudes! Get answers and opinions.

f. Without it, both you and your business are mute. We cannot hear you.

7. How can I be sociable? -
Start simple – (Being Sociable & Taking it Online)

a. Respect others for who they are, their niche, their mission

b. Respect humanity – Know that people are different. In race, religion, employment, activities, lifestyle, etc. You need to be open to everyone to maximize the effectiveness of your communication. Understand that social media has no room for exclusion and prejudice.

c. Be transparent – Using social media allows others to come into your world. Make sure you have clarity and direction when they enter. This is where you need to show yourself sociable. Be real, be friendly, and be positive. Then process them kindly.

d. Be personable – First name basis is great!

e. Learn how to open the conversation. About you… who, what, when, where, how. Then listen to them when they speak the same information. Document it!

f. Be cool. Folks will be quick to call you out and label you (@%*^!+) if you do not have the common respect expected. Not telling you to walk on eggshells, but “Just being Yourself” sometimes does not work for everyone. Learn to be flexible, get on our level, and be cool.

2010 Schedule for Asheville Social Media School

Okay, so for a brief itinerary on the Free Asheville Social Media School; we are going to layout some plans for the next several months. It is more than just making a blog, or meeting new people. All of these things are somewhat important, but without connecting it all together and creating a balance; it will not prosper effectively. We are going to take Western North Carolina and AVL on a journey of what social media is all about.

Class #1 – February 25, 2010 from 5pm-7pm – Our first class in Asheville NC is going to be at the Downtown Market on 45 South French Broad Avenue 28801. We are expecting about 200 people to attend this first social media class. We are going to start with an introduction and some basic info. Some questions that will be answered will be… “What is Social Media?” – “Why is Social Media Important?” – “Who created Social Media?”

We are going to discuss the simple importance of creating and maintaining an email. Learn the difference between emails options and why one may be better than the other. We are going to talk about being sociable in Asheville North Carolina and beyond. How can you express your media if your social skills are limited? We are going to show you some easy integration to meet more people and learn more about them. This is not just necessary for business, but for your whole life in general. We are going to learn some of the “unspoken” rules of social media and how to learn them online and then improve your daily living using them also. We are going to learn about the many different social media platforms that are available, how they reach different crowds and how you can use them all to circulate your message to millions of people.

We are going to have 1 minute intros at the beginning of every class from several people. If you would like to say something about you and your business, please let us know. But only one minute to show you the importance of making your initial message short and sweet for this new media society. At this first class… PaleoSun will be joining us to talk about some basic information about websites, and the Asheville Citizen Times will discuss some of their moves into the social media world.

*Since we are doing this right after work, food and drinks will be available from the vendors at the Downtown Market for about $4 per plate. Simple and good!

Class #2 – March 23, 2010 from 5:00pm-7:30pm at the Garage At Biltmore 101 Fairview Rd Asheville NC 28803 – Learn Social Networking using Twitter and Facebook. Besides G Social Media, we are going to have some guest speakers including Trey Pennington from Greenville South Carolina and Social Village from Asheville discussing some very important social media information. We will also show you how to set up a Twitter and Facebook account and some great tips for you and your business. Drinks will be available during the meeting and a music and social time will follow our class at 7pm. RSVP on Facebook or by Email (Email is on my blog website)

Class #3 – April 23, 2010 from 5pm-7:30pm at Elaine's Piano at the Grove Park Inn 290 Macon Ave Asheville NC 28804 – Learn Social Media Marketing using Video platforms from G Social Media, Asheville Video Productions and Bourne Media. Video communications are very important in today’s society. If a picture is worth a thousand words, a short video is worth at least 10 thousand to the targeted viewer. We will also show you how to set up a YouTube account and some lessons when uploading videos.

Class #4 – May 10, 2010 from 5:30pm-7:30pm – Learn Blogging as a personal journal project, a community awareness platform and business blogging from AskAsheville, Ashvegas and BlogAsheville in Asheville North Carolina. You will learn how to set a blog up, a few tricks to get it presentable and optimized, and how to fill it with the proper content and wording for your specific niche. Creating a blog for your business (and doing it right) is a very important part of your social media circle.

***More classes are planned for the rest of the 2010 year, with shorter spans during the warmer months. We have a few outdoor activities and social media retreats planned as well. This is going to be too much fun!!

***If you have a venue or place that you would like us to consider for hosting a Free Asheville Social Media School event or if you have something that you would like to donate as a raffle item at our events; please contact us. If you think that you know someone or are someone that would fit in good with one of these school sessions; please let us know. Thank you.

Social Media - The Act of Being Sociable... Online

Social Media has now joined the ranks of a "must have" outlet for businesses in the past year. It used to be "just for fun" or an option, but as users increase, the dangers of not having a social presence can be very dramatic. For many businesses it has, or will become, the determining factor as to if your business will even survive. The reason being is that potential clients that already have a connection through social media and networking feels as if they "know" that business even if they have never met.

When I was in Vegas several months ago at the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Party at the Luxor, Tony Hsieh - CEO of Zappos (@Zappos on Twitter) and Christa Foley - Zappos Recruiting Manager (@Electra on Twitter) both contacted me on the @AskAsheville Twitter handle ready to meet and connect with me at Zappos Corporate Headquarters and at the Revolution dance club for Twestival 2/09. From that moment on, everytime I think about buying shoes or sneakers online, or someone asks me about purchasing online; Zappos http://zappos.com/ is the first thing that comes out of my mouth. They made a friend of me and built another fan. Why do I mention this? Because social media is making sociable connections online. They did not tweet me and say "Go to our site and BUY NOW!". They were more like "Hey, are you in Vegas? Let's get together and hang out!" I was busy that evening with John Legend, Danica Patrick, Bar Refaeli and the others, and had to fly out first thing in the morning; but the connection was made. I was attracted by the sociable vibe they exhibited and it made a permanent impression on me.

Being sociable is not that easy for many people. Who likes to walk in a crowded room, announce themselves, and sincerely connect with everyone there? Not many. Social media is a personality, a vibe, a way of life. Some businesses attempt this online when they are very unsociable in "real life". Sociable media works so much better when you are willing to work from the inside out, and improve the social skills in your life as a whole. Then, when you take it online, people will openly (and even gladly) connect with you. All of us have heard about people "being reserved" and not that social. That simply will not work, or it will at least leave you behind in Social Media and Networking. You are stuck with some options. Either fake your sociability, attempt to blend, or improve your social skills. I recommend the latter, while implementing the blending attempt.

In closing, social media is so much more than an online game, job or responsibility. It is something that can force you to become that connecting sociable person you may have been looking for your whole life. It may teach you how to be more social and how to connect with many different people, businesses, and walks of life. Step one of social media and networking is simple... BE SOCIABLE!

Why We Hate Social Media... the tale of "her"

A tale of Social Media by G:

1. Social Media is New: Have you ever seen a new person come into "your business" or the company you have been working for and just soar? I mean, here she comes strutting her stuff in MY place, an area I have worked for years and years. She looks HOT! But I would never say because she competes with everything I know and have been trained to think. So I am predjudiced. Mr. Web Designer and Mr. Code Man both say they know her somewhat, but those are vague terms that "they" say about anything that looks good. She is fast, friendly, and boy does she get the job done! Her name is Social Media... our newest staff member.

2. Social Media is Fast: And I really thought that I was good, lol. In the time it takes me to make a few good contacts; she had made hundreds and thousands. Not fair! I have paid my dues, learned what they taught me, and this bitch goes speeding right on by. What is going on? Suddenly everyone feels the "need for speed" and I am falling behind just watching her work it. She doesn't even really pick up the phone and make that traditional human "one on one" contact. This can't be!

3. Social Media is Broad: I had a nice client base set up, I followed up on them regularly, and here she comes bringing in people from all over the world, capturing them as prospects, and her human team is converting them to clients in record time. Wow! I really thought I had a vision before I met her. She is like SuperWoman to me.

4. Social Media is Proven: It took me so long to prove myself to my people, my company, my boss, and my corporation. She comes on the scene and is promoted in weeks! How dare she prove her effectiveness!!! I know there are some minor issues with her, maybe; but she picks up so quick, we dare not feast on them. I am just waiting for the day she messes up big and even her clients will come running to me. I kinda know this day will never come to pass, but it sounds good... at least to me and my group of friends. She laughs and lovingly calls all of us "Haters". I leave work and she stays, happily working away. I go home, think about her for a few hours, and go to sleep mad once again. I wake up with only "her" on my mind. As much as I'd hate to say it; she has proven herself to me.

4. Social Media Is: Finally, I step back and make peace and friends with the Lady that is leading the way. She is so so fine! She networks, she connects, she reaches, she exhibits impartiality, she attracts, she consummates. I think I am falling for her. I spend some time with her... we flirt, we work, we play, we start doing things together. Soon we speak of each other as a team... "us!". We are One!

Today, I admit that I am in love with Social Media & damn proud of it. She is my teammate; working and bonded together forever. Yes! If she would let me put a ring on her finger I would; and then scream uncontrollably... "I Do!". Social Media, I love you!!!

The Social Media Star by G Social Media - How Social Media Works

Here is an example of how social media connects, reaches out, pulls in and works for you and your company. Of course there are many other platforms and ways that could be added to this; but we want you to understand how this works without overloading you. In the next illustration, I will show you how each of these outlets reach a wide variety of people. Social Media is here to stay and superior communications and effectively connecting with people, friends, fans, followers & customers is what many of our businesses have been waiting for. Door to door, endless hours playing phone tag, and paper advertising is losing a lot of ground. Connectivity like this is awesome! Thank you Social Media! This illustration and concept is property of G Social Media and may be used with proper accreditation, with approval. You can also visit G Social Media on Twitter by clicking HERE.

Miss North Carolina 08-09 Recommends G Social Media!

I have been a very satisfied client of G Social for several months now. I was depending on other websites and platforms to promote myself, my passion, and my modeling. Gary took a little information about me and quickly established a strong, permanent, interactive web presence. The platforms he set up allows me to update everything myself, after some simple phone training and consultation. Gary explained all the details to me so I was able to understand and effectively communicate online. I now have a prominent presence on the web and have been able to greatly further my career through the help of Gary and G Social.

New Media has taken a strong turn and G Social is way ahead of the times when it comes to not only establishing platforms, but making them work right for you and your company. Gary does this with ease.

Thank you for setting me up and continuing to assist me,
Melissa Chambers - Miss North Carolina International 2008-2009

Step Into Our World - Social Media, New Media, New Communications

It is kind of like stepping onto another planet when you really think about it. I mean before, being on the Internet, having a website, and using email to connect was just "an option". Today it is becoming the standard, and it is gaining more and more ground every day.

I love using email to contact people. Think about all of the wasted time on the phone, having to take notes of what actions you need to take, and then remembering everything they said. Many of us, after talking on the phone for however long end up telling the people to send us an email anyway. I like documentation. I like to save my brain power for better things. Email is awesome.

If you do not have a website in this day and age, it is kind of like having a "ghost" company. You are there, but not really. Any business consultant will quickly tell you that you need to have an Internet presence. This is elementary. Knowing what to do from there to make that website work for you takes some schooling. I know that some people think "once I get a website, I will be rich". Most of the time this is not the case. Having a website is having an online storefront, online office, and a sort of "headquarters" for your business. People in London and even many locals are normally not going to happen to be walking down the street and stumble upon your business. They will or may find it online, if anywhere and enquire from there.

G Social is a Social Media company based out of Asheville North Carolina that takes your company and website and adds increasing connections and reach out into this big world of yours. We put you on the map and highlight you. I was talking to someone the other day and I told them about information "going all over the world" and they said "I cannot even get around the corner". This is correct. You cannot get past a certain point or "corner" in your business without implementing New Media and Communications. When I say "New", it is new compared to past conduits many of us are used to, and it may be "New" to you. It is not new to us. You may have just begun looking into making some Web moves. Social Media is one that you need to make a quickly.

Do you need your business to start gaining ground? Do you need some new ground to promote your business? Do you need some new connections? Are you looking for new opportunity?

Social Media by G Social may be your answer. Look into it.
